Chamousira gold mine in Brusson in the Aosta Valley
The Chamousira gold mine opens in Brusson: are you ready for visits to the underground tunnels?
Mine-Experience will take you to discover the tunnel called "Level 7" located on the rock of Chamousira above Brusson in complete safety, illustrating the geological and mining aspects, curiosities, history and geology of the gold mines in the Aosta Valley.
At the entrance to the tunnel you will find the spectacular Belvedere, a structure overlooking the cliff that represents the ancient departure station of the cableway that carried the material extracted from the tunnel downstream.
The site will be open every weekend from June to September and in August every day at the following times:
09:30 - 11:00 - 12:30 in the morning;
14:00 - 15:30 - 17:00 in the afternoon.
The Visit at the "Classic Gold Mine" takes around 1 hour (€ 8 adults, € 5 for children 6-13 years, free for children under 6) but, upon reservation and with groups of at least 8 people, it is possible to organize a 3h30 of "Trekking Mine" excursion (morning or afternoon) departing from the village of La Croix to discover not only the gallery but also its surroundings (price 15 € adults from 14 years and children 9-13 years 13 €) . The activity is advised for children over 9 years old.
On Fridays, always on request, it is possible to take part in the “A Night in the Mine” experience with a meeting point at the parking place along the road that goes up to Estoul (fifth bend) for a visit at night with a flashlight! Duration approximately 4 hours (price € 15 for adults over 14 years and children 10-13 years € 13, packed dinner not included). The activity is advised for children over 10 years of age.
The Mine-Experience guides will reveal all the secrets of the miners and minerals hidden in the mountain, also advising you to complete your knowledge of the Valle d'Aosta mining sites with a visit at the mines of Saint-Marcel, cultivated since the time of the Romans for the extraction of copper and millstones.
The Brusson gold mine was active from 1900 until the end of the 1980s. Between 1903 and 1906, the British of the "Evançon Gold Mining Company" extracted about 400 kilos of the precious metal. The research permit, during the years, passed to Italy with the concession to the Rivetti family first and then to Mr. Filippa Agostino and his son Franco who, together with Mr. Bitossi, exploited it until 1983, but only with modest results.
Gold is found within quartz veins in two strands called Fenilliaz and Speranza (an evocative name).
Note
We recommend very warm clothing (even in summer) and boots, inside the tunnel the temperatures can be very low, (from 5 ° to 10 °).
The helmet will be provided on site (mandatory).
